All About Tequila
Tequila is a type of alcohol made from the blue agave plant, primarily grown in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 65 km (40 mi) northwest of Guadalajara, and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the central Mexican state of Jalisco. The blue agave plant grows only in specific parts of the world, primarily in the states of Jalisco, Tamaulipas, Nayarit, and parts of Guanajuato, Michoacán, and Durango.
The process of making tequila begins by cutting off the leaves of the agave plant, leaving the piña (the heart or core of the plant) exposed. The piña is then harvested and taken to the distillery, where it is roasted and crushed to extract the juice. This juice is then fermented and distilled to create the final product.
There are four main types of tequila: Blanco, Joven, Reposado, and Añejo. Blanco, also known as silver or plata, is the purest form of tequila and is not aged. Joven, or young, tequila is a blend of Blanco and Añejo tequilas, with added coloring and flavoring. Reposado, or rested, tequila is aged in oak barrels for at least two months, giving it a smooth and mellow flavor. Añejo, or aged, tequila is aged in oak barrels for at least one year, resulting in a rich and complex flavor.
Tequila is often associated with the traditional Mexican cocktail, the margarita, which is made with tequila, lime juice, and triple sec. However, tequila can also be enjoyed on its own, either neat or on the rocks. Many people also enjoy pairing Tequila with various types of food, such as Mexican dishes, seafood, and even chocolate.
Tequila has a rich history and cultural significance in Mexico, with the first records of the drink dating back to the 16th century. It has become a popular beverage worldwide, with Mexico exporting over 200 million liters of tequila annually.
When it comes to choosing a tequila, it is important to pay attention to the label. Cheaper tequilas may contain added sugars and other ingredients, which can affect the flavor and overall quality of the drink. COYABLU uses only the highest quality, 110 proof, premium tequila, barreled in vanilla from Jalisco, Mexico. Our unique flavor profiles can be enjoyed on their own, mixed in a cocktail, or over the rocks and are convenient to bring along with you wherever you go!
Tequila Blanco, also known as silver or plata tequila, is a type of tequila that is made from 100% blue agave plants and is not aged. It is the purest and most traditional form of tequila, with a clear and crisp flavor profile. This is what COYABLU uses in all of our tequila cocktails in a can.
The production process for tequila Blanco begins with the harvesting of the agave plant. The leaves of the plant are stripped away to reveal the piña, or the heart of the plant, which is then baked or steamed to release the juices. The juice is then extracted and fermented using yeast, before being distilled and bottled.
One of the key characteristics of tequila Blanco is its versatility. It can be enjoyed on its own, as a shot with lime and salt, or mixed into cocktails like margaritas or palomas. Its crisp and clean flavor makes it a great addition to a variety of drinks, and it is often used as the base for other types of tequila, like Reposado and Añejo.
Tequila Blanco is also known for its high proof, with many brands ranging between 40-50% alcohol by volume. This can make it a powerful choice for those looking to enjoy it as a shot, but it also means that it should be consumed responsibly.
There are many brands of tequila Blanco available on the market, each with their own unique flavor. Some are more earthy and vegetal, while others are more sweet and fruity. COYABLU uses a 110 proof Blanco barreled in vanilla, which is what creates our unique flavor profiles. On its own or mixed into a cocktail, COYABLU is a great choice for any occasion.
